Generally, birds would do everything possible to avoid going to places that would trouble them, therefore, when you keep a dummy bird close to your porch will definitely scare them away. To be effective the phony owl should have a sort of nodding head so that it would seem it is moving in the air. Also, be sure to change the location of the phony owl from time to time so that its effect would be greatly felt.
Baking Soda
You can also use baking soda to prevent birds from keep birds away from settling on your porch. This is done by scattering the substance over the place birds roost so as not to allow them to perch. The areas the birds' perch are smeared with a thin layer of baking soda. These creatures detest it when they feel baking soda beneath their feet therefore they will evade landing there.
To be effective, there is the need to ensure that whenever rain falls or the baking soda becomes wet, it must be changed.
