Pro Bird Control Milwaukee Tip of the Month: Muscovy duck trapping
What are Muscovy ducks?
Muscovy ducks are considered pests. The reason for their classification as a pest is their aggressive behaviour, droppings that they leave and the fact that they often destroy your grass and property. In most cases, these ducks move in groups and if your lawn happens to be the area that group chooses to invade, your grass will quickly die, and you will find it covered in droppings.
Removing Muscovy duck eggs
Not only do these ducks cause the harms previously mentioned, they quickly multiply which will also multiply your problems. The female ducks can lay eggs all year round, there is no safe period. The egg batches often contain 20 and more eggs. While most people think that if they simply remove these eggs from the mother, they will not hatch, and the problem will be resolved. It is important to realise that this is not the case! By removing the eggs, the female duck will simply lay another couple dozens of eggs. The problem will never be settled by removing the eggs.
Attracting them to your trap
If you are facing a Muscovy duck infestation on your property, you can consider trapping them and relocating them to a location where they are less likely to bother people. In most cases, this is completely legal if the ducks are not being harmed, you may research the local regulations on trapping for your area. Once a trap has been set up, you can place a few things that will attract the ducks to your trap. The list includes but is not limited to; minnows and fish eggs, frogs, tadpoles, grass, seeds and weeds. By placing these things in the center of your trap, you can hopefully catch ducks, however, this will also take patience.
In conclusion, these pests are not a nice thing to be dealing with. With the tips given in this article, we hope that you will soon solve your problem. Remember, if you are unsure, you can always call a local professional to help with the job and ensure that the entire process is done safely.
